Idempotence
A downloadable class project for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Idempotence is a concept in mathematics that describes a property of some operations such that no matter how many times it is executed, the same result is achieved. In this game, the player will be tasked to identify the purpose of a signal that is being sent from a dormant Hendricks Institute energy depot on the east side of the Pflugerville Junk Yard in the Rust Sea. The player character is a freelance hacker with some experience using firearms and blades, but they are not proficient at combat. The main interface that the player will be using to hack into and manipulate systems is the command console of the systems that they jack into.
Update (12/16/2022):
This update only consists of some console commands and examples of it affecting the game world as well as seamlessly transitioning between the player character and the terminal that they are accessing. Menus are exclusively a start menu with only the option to start the game and a pause menu with the option to restart, continue, and exit the game. There is some hints of the environmental art, but many important aspects, like signage and weather, are absent. The player can only walk, run, and enter/exit terminals at the moment, and the accepted terminal commands are as follows:
- "help" - displays information about what commands are available
- "lock" - with a portal name and adequate password, lock the selected portal
- "unlock" - with a portal name and adequate password, unlock the selected portal
- "lockdown" - with an adequate password, force shut all portals for a short time
- "evacuate" - with an adequate password, force open all portals for a short time
- "run" - given an program name, you will be told that it does not exist yet
- "exit" - leave the terminal and return to the biped
